Tertulia: An Evening of Filipino Chamber Music

  • Buntrock Hall at Symphony Center 220 S Michigan Ave Chicago, IL 60604 United States (map)

Experience an evening of music from the Philippines, performed for the first time at the Chicago Symphony Center!

Historically, the Tertulia Filipina is a gathering where Filipinos showcased new music, poetry, theater, and other art forms. In this concert, not only are we celebrating the beauty of our country’s cultural heritage but also sharing it on the big stage with the rest of the world.

Joining me is FilAm Artistic Director and internationally acclaimed pianist Victor Santiago-Asuncion, and two stellar artists on this year's roster, cellist Ezra Escobar and mezzo-soprano Michelle Mariposa.

We are thrilled to give the Symphony Center premiere of works by Gabriel Art Mendoza and Alexander John Villanueva! The program also includes music by Nicanor Abelardo, Lucrecia Kasilag, Antonino Buenaventura, Lucio San Pedro, Constancio De Guzman, and Francisco Buencamino, Sr.

Admission is free! Donations are encouraged. All proceeds will go to the FilAm Music Foundation, a non-profit organization which aims to support Filipino classical musicians through performance and scholarship opportunities.

You can make a minimum suggested donation of $5 at: https://filammusic.foundation/donate/

Light bites and drinks will be available prior to the concert.

This event is made possible through generous funding from the Negaunee Music Institute to support the Civic Orchestra Fellowship program.
