A Parisian Affair

  • St. James's Church, Sussex Gardens Sussex Gardens London, England, W2 3UD United Kingdom (map)

In 1778, at the age of 22, Mozart crafted the celebrated Symphony No. 31 in D major while seeking employment in Paris. This symphony, distinguished by its unusually expansive instrumentation for the era, garnered a favorable reception at its premiere and has since become a staple in Mozart's repertoire. In conjunction with this symphony, the evening's program will feature Max Reger's Variations and Fugue based on a theme by Mozart. This theme originates from the initial movement of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Piano Sonata in A, K. 331, which he also composed during his sojourn in Paris.

These two works are sandwiched by Mario Tedesco's spanish-inspired Concertino for Harp and Orchestra performed by soloist Ian Lim.
